Westport Firefighters Contain Vehicle Fire Extending to Garage

Westport Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire at a residence on Sturges Hwy. The initial dispatch was for two Engines. Dispatch upgraded the assignment to a structure fire response advising the fire was extending to the house. Two additional Engines, one Truck company, and the Shift Commander responded. E6 arrived and reported a vehicle fire with extension to the garage and declared a working fire. The crew from E6 stretched a hose line for extinguishment and began fire attack, minimizing fire spread. The crews from Truck 1 and Engine 2 checked the interior for fire extension, which was limited to the garage exterior. Remaining crews provided overhaul, utility control, and water supply. The Bridgeport Police Department confirms that Steven Vega, the victim of a January 4, 2025, shooting at 242 Lake Street, succumbed to his injuries earlier this morning. Initially reported as critically injured, Vega sustained gunshot wounds to his torso and hand during an altercation that began inside the residence and continued to the front steps of the single-family home. Officers responding to the scene secured the area and initiated an investigation, which is now being led by the Detective Bureau’s Homicide Squad. Investigators have determined that the incident was isolated and that Vega knew his attacker. Duo Arrested in Connection to Suspicious Death Investigation in Shelton

Shelton Police have arrested two men in connection with the investigation of a suspicious death at the Residence Inn Hotel on 1001 Bridgeport Avenue. On December 26, 2024, police charged Daqwon Graham, 30, of Ansonia, with promoting prostitution, and Jordan Rambert, 35, of New Haven, with soliciting prostitution. The investigation began on October 1, 2024, at approximately 8:00 AM when officers discovered a deceased female in the hotel’s courtyard. Police determined that Rambert had been visiting the woman when she reportedly failed to return to the room. Search warrants executed on the hotel room and a vehicle linked to the victim revealed connections to Graham. Evidence uncovered supported the charges filed against both men.
