2020-05-02@9:43pm– #Bridgeport CT— Police and firefighters received another call of fishermen caught on the breakwater rocks at Seaside Park. Initially they thought there were about 5 people on the rocks, then ten and the numbers kept going up. A total of 28 people had to transport from zodiac (rubber boats used for shallow-water rescue) to the police and fire boats and then shuttled the ferry dock to be evaluated by EMS. First reports said there were a couple of people with hypothermia but all 28 people refused medical treatment and refused transportation back to their vehicles.

2020-05-02@9:34pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police reported that Two police officers from the harbor unit are responding to a call of 7-10 fishermen stuck on the breakwater inside Bridgeport harbor. Some of the fishermen attempted to wade through the cold water but were unable to make it to shore due to the high tide.

The fishermen turned back and remain on the breakwater. Two fire boats are responding as well and AMR.

 

The initial report said 10 people trapped on the rocks but now it reported to be 16.  EMS reports say some may be suffering from hypothermia.

 

Police were also called to where the cannons are at Seaside Park due to a large number of fishermen.

Bridgeport News: Motorcycle Crash

Police UPDATE: On May 2, 2020 at approximately 7:25 pm the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received the report of a Motor Vehicle vs Motorcycle at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Lenox Avenue.
 
The operator of a 1993 Honda CBR600, identified as Terrell McCrae DOB 7/31/1993 of Bridgeport was traveling westbound on Fairfield Avenue, as he approached the intersection of Lenox Avenue a 2003Toyota Camry operated by Serafin Perez-Palma DOB 10/12/1996 of Bridgeport had come out from Lenox Avenue, turning westbound onto Fairfield Avenue and collided with the motorcycle driven by McCrae. The motorcycle then collided with 2 parked vehicles.
 
Bridgeport Fire Department, AMR, and the Bridgeport Police Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene.
 
The operator of the motorcycle Terrell McCrae was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital for Serious Non-Life threatening injuries.
The operator of the Toyota had no injuries and was released on scene pending further investigation.

2020-05-02@7:39pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating a crash involving a motorcycle on Fairfield Avenue near Lenox Avenue.  The accident reconstruction team has been called to the scene.  Expect delays as the area is blocked off for the investigation.

 

Bridgeport News: Garage Fire

2020-05-02 @ 6:20pm–#Bridgeport CT– A car caught fire inside a detached garage catching the garage on fire in the 200 block of Wheeler Avenue.  Firefighters were quick to extinguish it before it extended to a nearby home.  Police were called to the scene shortly after the fire was extinguished due to fighting that broke out between two people.

2020-05-02@2:29pm—Reminiscent of the rooftop concert the Beatles performed back in 1969 (okay, most you weren’t even born yet), a concert was put on the rooftop of Harborview Market on Harborview Avenue. Two people called the police. The concert was already going on for quite a while and police were told that it was about to wrap up regardless.

Bridgeport News: East Main Construction

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim announces a State Department of Transportation safety improvement project currently underway on Route 127, East Main Street.

Due to current pandemic circumstances, the original construction was paused, and progress delayed. Construction resumed April 27, 2020, and will take place Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm. Detours will be in place to redirect motorists around the project during the weekday construction hours.

The safety improvement project, happening near the intersection of Evers Street and East Main Street, will cause detours onto Broadbridge Road and Huntington Turnpike.

The entirety of the project is scheduled to be completed around November 2021 and was designed to help reduce the high accident rate in the surrounding area by increasing the visibility of vehicles and pedestrians. Mayor Ganim reminds residents to give yourself extra travel time in this area, obey traffic safety personnel and signage, observe workers in the construction zone, and drive safely.

Bridgeport News: First Responder Covid Testing

Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport announces PhysicianOne Urgent Care will be conducting COVID-19 testing for all Bridgeport First Responders on Saturday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 6th.

First Responders do not need to be current or previous patients of PhysicianOne Urgent Care to receive testing. First Responders must register before 8pm on Thursday, April 30th for Saturday testing, and before 8pm on Monday, May 4th for Wednesday testing. Register online at physicianoneurgentcare.com/Bridgeport. A photo ID must be present on the day of testing.

Once the registration is received, a text message will be sent to the mobile number provided on the registration form. The text message will include a link regarding next steps to complete registration. Registration must be completed by Thursday, April 30 for Saturday tests or Monday, May 4 for Wednesday tests.
