Here is the FULL police report. Note in my initial report that “The car had plates on it that didn’t belong on that car according to radio reports’ Sha’Quinn Jamair Johnson (DOB 07/29/1998) was arrested and issued Misdemeanor Summons charging him with Operating Under Suspension 14-215 and Engaging In Pursuit 14-223(b) after Johnson engaged Officers in pursuit on Commerce Drive into Bridgeport while driving with a suspended license.

While on routine patrol in the area of Commerce Drive and Coolidge Street I observed a vehicle get off exit 25 of I95 North. The vehicle quickly drove past Officer Griffin and I who were located at the bottom of the exit ramp. I attempted to run the vehicle’s registration through collect but I was only briefly able to see the vehicle’s registration. My initial COLLECT check was of CT AD17153 which returned that the registration was expired and cancelled on a 2002 black Chevrolet Malibu. I then attempted to position my patrol vehicle behind the vehicle. As soon as my patrol vehicle got behind the suspect vehicle the vehicle rapidly accelerated East on Commerce Drive toward Bridgeport. The vehicle quickly accelerated away from my patrol vehicle upon me entering the roadway behind it. Believing the vehicle to be the Chevrolet Malibu with the cancelled Connecticut registration AD17153 I activated my patrol vehicle’s overhead lights and emergency siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. There were no other vehicles traveling on Commerce Drive and the suspect vehicle continued to accelerate East on Commerce Drive making no attempt to pull over.

The vehicle continued East on Commerce Drive into Bridgeport. The vehicle continued East on State Street where I was able to close distance on the vehicle. The vehicle weaved around a vehicle at the traffic signal located at State Street and Dewey Street. While aneuvering the vehicle the operator, later identified as Sha’Quinn Johnson, struck the rear left tire of his vehicle on the center median

of the roadway damaging its wheel and flattening the tire. The vehicle then turned West onto Fairfield Avenue. I was able to clearly read the vehicle’s registration CT AU17153 which was registered on a black 2000 Buick Regal LS. CT AU17153 quickly accelerated West on Fairfield Avenue there were several vehicles traveling on the roadway and rainy weather conditions.

Officer Griffin and Bridgeport Officer Topolski had arrived and were assisting in the pursuit. CT AU17153 then turned onto Orland Street and then turned again onto Wakeman Street. The vehicle then turned onto Burr Court and then onto Burr Road traveling South back towards Fairfield Avenue. The pursuit was then terminated by Fairfield Police. I deactivated my patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and siren and informed Fairfield ECC that the vehicle continued traveling South on Burr Road. Bridgeport Officer Topolski then maneuvered hispatrol vehicle around mine and onto Orland Street where the suspect vehicle had now stopped and the sole occupant,

Sha’Quinn, had exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officer Topolski exited his patrol vehicle and began to pursue the operator on foot through the back yards of several house located on Orland Street Officer Griffin and I exited our patrol vehicles to assist and gave chase on foot. Officer Griffin and I exited the yards on to Burr Road where I observed that Sha’Quinn had now entered a red Chevrolet sedan and was now seated in the rear left seat of that vehicle, KY 950YTM. The vehicle was also occupied by its operator, Shelby Johnson. Bridgeport Officer Topolski gave verbal commands to the occupants of the vehicle while Officer Griffin and I provided cover. I handcuffed Sha’Quinn and searched his person but located nothing. Officer Mirra arrived on scene and I placed Sha’Quinn in the rear of his patrol vehicle.

I then read Sha’Quinn his Miranda Rights and he stated that he understood them. He stated that he ran from police because his license was suspended and that he was scared of the police. He explained that he just happened to see his mother driving down Burr Road and asked her to let him in the vehicle. Sha’Quinn was NCIC/ PRAWN negative with a suspended license as of 04/04/2018. He was SPRC positive. Sha’Quinn had pending court proceedings for violations of C.G.S 29-38 Weapon In A Motor Vehicle, 53a-217c Criminal Possession of a Firearm and 53a-48/53a-123 Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2nd Degree. He had a court date for the next day (06/19/2019).

Officer Wells and Gorton arrived on scene and conducted a search of CT AU17153 and the path of the foot pursuit but no contraband was located. See Officer Wells’ supplement.

I then spoke with Shelby Johnson, Sha’Quinn’s mother and the other occupant of the vehicle that Sha’Quinn got into after fleeing on foot. Shelby stated that she lives around the corner and heard the sirens. She stated that she was headed to the gas station on the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Burr Road to check on what was going on. She stated that while traveling down Burr Road her son Sha’Quinn ran out from between several houses and to her car asking her to let him in. Shelby stated that she was unsure why her son was running from police and explained that Sha’Quinn is afraid of the police and had a court date the following day.

Sport Hill was detailed to the scene and towed CT AU17153. Bridgeport Officer Topolski provided BPT PD file #19-53455 for Bridgeport P.D. assistance with the pursuit. Sha’Quinn was transported to Fairfield Police Headquarters by Officer Mirra. After arriving at Fairfield Police Headquarters Officer Mirra and I processed Sha’Quinn. He was read and signed a Notice Of Rights and he was issued a Misdemeanor Summons and Bond was set at $250.00.

Sha’Quinn Jamair Johnson (DOB 07/29/1998) was arrested and issued Misdemeanor Summons #MC 689503 charging him with Operating Under Suspension 14-215 and Engaging In Pursuit 14-223(b). He is scheduled to appear in court, 172 Golden Hill Street Bridgeport, on 06/28/2019 at 0930 hours. Sha’Quinn was released on $250.00 bond.

 

2019-06-18 @ 9:31pm–#Fairfield CT– #Bridgeport CT–  Fairfield Police attempted to pull over a car in their town when the car sped to Bridgeport.  The pursuit circled around Fairfield Avenue when Fairfield Police broke off the pursuit because of weather conditions.  The car had plates on it that didn’t belong on that car according to radio reports.  Bridgeport Police were notified by radio and finished the pursuit by bring the car to a stop in a driveway off Burr Road in Bridgeport (near Wendy’s) and apprehending the driver.  Special thanks to Hodge of H & A Convenience at 2098 Fairfield Avenue for keeping a parking spot open whenever there is action in the area!
