A Vietnam War Memorial will travel through Westport, Bridgeport & Fairfield on Sept 24.

You are invited to welcome The Wall as a trailer carrying THE WALL THAT HEALS AND MOBILE EDUCATION CENTER will leave Sherwood Island in Westport at noon and proceed north on Route 1 to Fairfield making a brief stop at the intersection of Post Road and S. Benson Road at 12:15 p.m. on TUES SEPT 24. A Fairfield Fire Department truck will stop traffic in the intersection, where a soloist will sing the national anthem. The parade will then proceed to Bridgeport via Route 1, Fairfield Ave. & Park Ave., and onto Veterans Memorial Park where The Wall will be assembled for a four day stop. 

The traveling three-fourths sized replica of the Washington DC Vietnam War monument will travel with a motorcycle escort along Police, Fire, and other First Responders. Anyone who has a motorcycle and would like to join the honor ride to accompany the wall is invited to do so. Riders should meet at Sherwood Island State Park at 10 a.m. 

The Wall That Heals has been displayed in nearly 700 communities throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions. Bringing The Wall home to communities throughout our country allows the souls enshrined on the Memorial to exist once more among family and friends in the peace and comfort of familiar surroundings.

The traveling exhibit provides thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin. The main components of The Wall That Heals are The Wall replica and the mobile Education Center.

The Wall That Heals will be displayed at Veterans Memorial Park, 4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport from 9/26 – 9/29. The wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day and everyone is invited to attend. Bridgeport Public Schools Ensures Student Safety for School Return on Monday

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (September 22, 2024) – In response to the recent threat to our schools, Bridgeport Public Schools has implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff as they return to school on Monday.

The district worked closely with local law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the threat, and an arrest has been made. Authorities have assured the district that there is no credible danger at this time and there would be a strong police presence at the district’s schools.

Additionally, the district has also reviewed and reinforced our existing safety protocols, including emergency response plans and communication procedures with the City of Bridgeport Emergency Operations and police departments.

Counseling and support services will also be available for students and staff who may feel anxious or concerned about the situation.

“We are confident that these measures will provide a safe and secure environment for our students to return to their educational activities,” said Dr. Carmela Levy-David, Superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools. “Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep everyone informed of any updates.”

Bridgeport Police Arrest 13-Year-Old Suspect in School Threat Investigation

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Bridgeport Police Department arrested a 13-year-old suspect in connection with recent threats made against local schools. The individual was charged with Threatening in the First Degree. The arrest, made at 10:50 p.m., followed a swift and coordinated investigation involving the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, and federal partners.

Earlier that evening, the department had been made aware of the threats and immediately launched an aggressive investigation, assuring the public that the safety of students and staff was a top priority. A strong police presence was implemented at schools to ensure the community’s safety.

The Chief of Police emphasized the department’s commitment to keeping Bridgeport’s youth safe, vowing to continue working with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly to any potential threats. ARREST MADE IN DEADLY DAYTIME SHOOTING ON SPRING STREET

As a result of the criminal investigation led by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Detective Tom Harper was able to secure an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Roshay Williams charging him for the September 11, 2024, murder of 37-year-old Akeem Shoucair-Grant.  On Sept. 11, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, Akeem was shot multiple times in the 100 block of Spring Street.  He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. 

Roshay Williams, of Bridgeport, CT, turned himself into Bridgeport Police Headquarters this morning and was served with the warrant charging him with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.  Bond is set at 1.5 million dollars.  Williams will be arraigned this morning at Bridgeport Superior Court. 

Bridgeport City Officials On School Threats

Bridgeport, CT – Due to the alarming incident that recently involved multiple schools throughout the Bridgeport Public School District, the City of Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Bridgeport Board of Education would like to reassure all parents, students, staff members, and all other residents of the community that safety remains the top priority. This issue has significantly impacted the Bridgeport community as a whole and is not to be taken lightly. Because of this, the Bridgeport Police Department used all necessary resources, including working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to find the individual responsible for the incident. At this time, the individual has been arrested and all City entities have determined that a threat no longer remains within the Bridgeport Public Schools, with hopes that a peace of mind will be gradually brought to the community.

Mayor Ganim stated, “Keeping our residents safe is always a top priority of mine, and that includes our Bridgeport Public school students, staff members, and parents. A situation like this is of extreme concern and we take this very seriously. I want to express my gratitude to our Bridgeport Police Department for acting swiftly and making an arrest while also mitigating this issue in the most efficient way possible.”

The City of Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Bridgeport Board of Education would like to remind all parents, students, staff, and residents of the community that safety plans are currently in place within each Bridgeport Public School and are to be used as mandatory guidelines when emergencies arise. All City entities are also reminding everyone to remain vigilant and make immediate reports to the Bridgeport Police Department if any threats are made throughout the Bridgeport Public School District.

Four-Vehicle Crash in Bridgeport Leaves One Driver in Critical Condition

On September 18, 2024, at approximately 10:09AM, the Emergency Operations Center received a call for a collision involving four vehicles. The collision occurred near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street. The caller reported, an operator of a black Toyota Camry struck several cars, and possibly had a seizure. Bridgeport Fire Engine 15, American Medical Response (AMR), Bridgeport Police Officers, and the Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the location.  After a preliminary investigation, it was determined a 43-year-old, Bridgeport resident was operating a 2009 black Toyota Camry and traveling north on East Main Street.

The 43-year-old operator of the 2009 black Toyota Camry crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2023 tan Chevy Malibu near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street. The 2009 black Toyota Camry continued traveling in the southbound shoulder of East Main Street and struck the front of a parked (unoccupied) 2007 Toyota Camry and pushed the vehicle onto the sidewalk. The 2009 black Toyota Camry continued traveling south and struck a parked (unoccupied) 2000 black Cadillac Escalade and came to rest.

The 43-year-old operator of the 2009 black Toyota Camry was removed from the vehicle by AMR, and Bridgeport Firemen, and transported to the Bridgeport Hospital Emergency Center. The 43-year-old operator is listed in critical condition. The 40-year-old operator of the 2023 tan Chevy Malibu and her 59-year-old passenger didn’t sustain any injuries from the collision.
