Westport News: Funny Money Arrest

#Westport CT--On Tuesday September 19, 2017 at approximately 3:42pm, patrol units were dispatched to Trader Joe’s, 400 Post Road East, on a complaint that an individual made a purchase using what was identified by store employees as a counterfeit $100.00 bill. The store was alerted to males passing counterfeit bills earlier on this same date at other Trader Joe’s locations in southern Connecticut. The suspect, later identified as Jamel D. Greene, purchased soap with the counterfeit bill, receiving currency in the amount of $88.87 as change. Store staff had seen Greene in the company of at least one other male while in the store, later identified as Patmore Proctor. Store employees were able to provide a description of both suspects…

Westport News: Hurricane Sandy Home Improvement Violation Arrest

#Westport CT--Suspect John Mech was wanted by the Westport Police Department for the charges of Larceny 3 rd and Home Improvement violations stemming from a 2012 incident where Mech, during the Hurricane Sandy post clean up, was offering to sell and install electric generators at various residences throughout Fairfield County. Mech accepted a down payment of $6,000 with the balance of the $9,750 due upon completion from the victim of this incident. Over the next several months, Mech failed to provide the victim a generator or perform any installation. After repeated attempts to resolve the issue with Mech, the victim filed a police report and asubsequent arrest warrant was issued for Mech in December of 2013. In addition, Mech had…

#Westport CT--This morning, October 03, 2017 at approximately 07:20 am, a juvenile female was approached at her bus stop at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Breezy Knoll by a suspicious male. The juvenile reported it was a white male, age 40 to 50, with brown hair and a bald spot. The juvenile stated the male first walked up and down Clinton Avenue, then got into an older green Jeep Grand Cherokee. The suspicious male asked the juvenile twice if she wanted to see the cute dog in the back of his car. #Westport, CT - Elaine Daignault, Director of the Department of Human Services announces the return of the American Job Center Southwest’s (formerly known as CTWorks) Career Coach at Westport Town Hall.  On Thursday, October 12, the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft Excel 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in Excel 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m.  The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with ten wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area.  The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities.   Area residents interested in registering should contact the Westport…

Westport News: EMS Granted $35k Grant

Westport, Connecticut – Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service has been awarded a $35,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. Newman’s Own Foundation made the award to celebrate 35 years since Paul Newman began the food company bearing his name. Westport Volunteer EMS is one of the original recipients of Newman’s generosity. This funding will help Westport Volunteer EMS (WVEMS) save lives and educate others in the Westport community.  WVEMS, with nearly 120 volunteer EMS providers who proudly donate over 18,000 volunteer hours annually, is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 with the mission of supporting the Town of Westport Emergency Medical Service.
