Westport Firefighters Extricate Occupant After Crash on I-95

Early this morning, Westport firefighters responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on I-95 near Exit 18. Upon receiving the call, dispatch informed responding units that police on the scene reported one occupant still trapped inside the vehicle. The initial dispatch included Engine 5, Engine 4, Rescue 3, and the Shift Commander. Upon arrival, Engine 5 reported a single vehicle had veered off the roadway, sustaining significant damage. Firefighters confirmed one individual was trapped inside the wreckage. Crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and utilized battery-operated rescue tools to remove the roof, allowing for the rapid extrication of the occupant in less than 10 minutes. RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD AND SEX ASSUALT IN THE 1ST DEGREE

On December 9th, 2024, Bridgeport Police officers responded to the East Side of Bridgeport on reports of a child being sexually assault by a known party.  That victim is under 10 years of age.   The BPD’s Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) took charge of the investigation and quickly confirmed the identity of the suspect.  As a result of this investigation, Special Victim’s Unit Detective Brian Coyne obtained an arrest warrant for 65-year-old Matthew Moales of Bridgeport CT charging him with Risk of Injury to a Child (4 counts), Sexual Assault in the 1st Degree (4 counts), and Illegal Sexual Contact - victim under 13 (4 counts). Police UPDATE: On January 9, 2025, at approximately 5:05 pm Bridgeport Police responded to report(s) of a party shot within the 100 block of Hewitt Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim at the front of a residence on Hewitt Street suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the torso.  Medics arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital where he passed away a short time later. Patrol Officers secured the crime scene and notified the Detective Bureau (DB).  The DB Homicide Squad is responding along with the Forensic Identification Unit. Westport News: Deer Rescue From Ice

At 6:49am Fairfield County Regional Dispatch center received a call for a deer that was trapped in the ice. The Westport Fire Department responded with an Engine, Rescue, Shift Commander, and Safety Officer. Responding companies found a deer stuck in the ice of the Saugatuck River near the Post Road.Members from the Rescue Company utilized cold water rescue suits and equipment to enter the river and successfully remove the deer. The deer was able to walk away into a wooded area.
