MAYOR HOYDICK ANNOUNCES KEY POLICE PROMOTIONS 

STRATFORD – Mayor Laura R. Hoydick and Police Chief Joseph McNeil have announced three promotions from within the ranks of the Stratford Police Department; Lieutenant Anthony Rhew is promoted to the rank of Captain, Sergeant James Lazaro is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and Officer David Sheehan is promoted to the rank of Sergeant. 

“We are pleased to announce these promotions today, as these officers have distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties to the citizens of the Town of Stratford, and among the finest in the ranks among our excellent professional police force,” said Mayor Hoydick.  “I know that Captain Rhew, Lieutenant Lazaro and Sergeant Sheehan will continue to the performances that have earned them these promotions, and will continue to be a credit to Stratford.” 

“These officers have performed notably in their previous posts, and we are proud to promote them this afternoon and give them their new assignments,” said Chief McNeil.  “These officers have embodied our ideals of service and dedication, and I look forward to seeing them rise to the challenges of their new roles in the service and protection of the citizens of Stratford.” 

Captain Rhew has been with the Stratford Police Department for 17 years and previously worked for the Milford Police Department. He is a graduate of UCONN and was previously assigned as the Lieutenant in charge of the Training Division. 

Lieutenant Lazaro has served with the Stratford Police Department for 20 years.  He is a graduate of Seton Hall and Columbia University and was last assigned as a Sergeant with the Patrol Division. 

Sergeant Sheehan has been with the Stratford Police Department for 7 years.  He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served with the Waterbury Police Department for 20 years.  He was last assigned to the Patrol Division as a police K-9 handler. 

The promotions took effect July 4th, with Town Clerk Susan Pawluk swearing them in to their new posts this afternoon in the Council Chambers at Stratford Town Hall. 

Bridgeport News: Oil Spill

2022-07-05@11:44am–#Bridgeport CT– Firefighters were called for an oil spill on Commerce Drive. Witnesses said a pick-up truck was carting a barrel with oil when it turned onto Commerce Drive from Fairfield Avenue when the barrel tipped over. The driver righted the barrel but left the spill behind. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was notified of the oil that flowed into the storm drain.

Senator To Walk Across Connecticut

HARTFORD–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn) will set off on his sixth “Walk Across Connecticut” on Monday. Murphy will start by kayaking on the Housatonic River on Monday and end his walk on Thursday in New Haven. He will hear firsthand from Connecticut residents about a variety of topics and gather feedback to take back to Washington. Information about events and town halls will be advised throughout the week.

Bridgeport News: Man Injured In Firework Accident

Police UPDATE: Reportedly, a 30 year old male damaged some/most of his hand while using fireworks. Several callers contacted 911, the male was found by first responders at the intersection of Noble/Shelton and was transported to BPT hospital in stable condition with serious injuries to his hand

Bridgeport Police Arrest Suspect Pedro “Joker” Ortiz and Suspect Morris “Moe” Moore

During the months of May and June 2022 the Bridgeport Police Department Narcotics and Vice Division received information that a narcotics dealer referred to as “Joker” was selling crack cocaine out of a residence within the 700 block of Hallett Street.

As a result of that investigation the identity of the crack dealer was determined to be 52-year-old Pedro “Joker” Ortiz of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Narcotics and Vice Detectives further learned that Joker had an associate that would resupply his Hallett Street operation.  A search and seizure warrant was secured for Joker and his residence.

On July 1, 2022 Pedro “Joker” Ortiz was stopped outside of his residence while the search and seizure warrants were performed.  Narcotics were found on Joker’s person and he was immediately placed under arrest.

Upon the execution of the Hallett Street search warrant, Narcotics Officers were meet with interference by a male occupant identified as 50-year-old Morris “Moe” Moore of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Moore opened the door and then immediately closed it on the Officers attempting to perform the requirements of the search warrant.  Officers were able to gain entry by pushing the door open before Moore could lock it.  Moore was placed under arrest for interfering with the lawful execution of a search and seizure warrant.  During a search of Moore’s person, incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of a large quantity of crack cocaine.

During the search of the Hallett Street residence Officers located a total of 157.2 grams of crack cocaine, 4.8 grams of powdered cocaine, a small amount of fentanyl, and ammunition. 

Both Moore and Ortiz are convicted felons and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.    

Morris “Moe” Moore is charged with Operation of a Drug Factory, Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of Ammunition, and Interfering with a Search Warrant.  Bond is set at $150,000.00.  Moore was release after making his bond.  He is scheduled to appear in court on July 14, 2022.

Pedro “Joker” Ortiz is charged with Operation of a Drug Factory, Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, and Criminal Possession of Ammunition.  Bond is set at $125,000.00 and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 5, 2022.

Norwalk News: House Fire

2022-07-04@6:26pm–#Norwalk CT– #ctfire-Norwalk Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Esquire Road. Working smoke alarms awakened the occupants of the split-level single-family home who were able to safely exit the structure and call 911. Four Engine Companies, 2 Trucks, a Rescue, and a Command Car arrived on scene to discover a fire that started in a rear screened in porch had extended into the family’s living room. The fire was placed under control in 25 minutes after arrival. Fire Inspector Dave Burrows remained on scene for the origin and cause investigation.

Witnesses said it was a tractor trailer that hit it. Police are investigating. The power is reported to be out in the area.
