Washington, DC— Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) applauded the House of Representatives passage of the Corporate Improvement and Investor Protection Act which requires companies to disclose key information to enable investors to make informed decisions with their money. The package included Himes’s bill, the Cybersecurity Disclosure Act, which requires companies to disclose their efforts on cybersecurity. As bad actors increasingly turn to cybercrime in industries varying from fuel supply to food supply, ensuring cybersecurity expertise at the Board of Directors level in public companies is vital.
“Every day, we wake up to news of another business falling victim to a cyberattack. These attacks will only get worse unless we make serious changes, and that includes making cybersecurity a focus at the Board level. I’m pleased the House passed my legislation to ensure investors have the knowledge they need about public companies’ cybersecurity posture to make informed decisions.”
The Corporate Improvement and Investor Protection Act also requires disclosures on:
· information relating to the financial and business risks associated with climate change
· political activities, including independent expenditures, electioneering communications, and dues to trade organizations
· total pre-tax profits, and total amounts paid in state, federal, and foreign taxes, which would reveal companies’ use of tax havens
· pay raise percentage of its executives and the pay raise percentage of its median employee, shedding light on racial and gender pay gaps
· additional environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics
On June 11th, the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a rule requiring disclosures on cybersecurity risk, climate risk, human capital, including workforce diversity and corporate board diversity.

#Bridgeport CT–On June 18, 2021, at approximately 12:40 a.m. Bridgeport Police Officers were dispatched to an assault with a firearm in the 400 block of Trumbull Avenue despite the mobile command center parked a block away. A verbal and physical dispute between two Bridgeport women occurred in the parking lot at that location.
As a result of the dispute 27-year-old Lanetta Parker was shot one time in the arm (non-life-threatening). Parker was transported to St. Vincent’s hospital by private vehicle, treated, and released.
33-year-old Janeece Fabin was placed under arrest by the Patrol Division and transported to the Bridgeport Police Department where she was charged with Assault in the 1st Degree, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Breach of Peace 2nd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. Bond was set at $56,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 18, 2021.

Yesterday, the mayor’s office released a press release saying: “Mayor Ganim joined Bridgeport Police Department Acting Chief Rebeca Garcia, Park City Communities Executive Director Jillian Baldwin, and other City officials to announce $100,000 allocated towards an increase in community police presence at Park City Communities; particularly Trumbull Gardens, Charles F. Greene Homes, and P .T. Barnum apartment complexes and additional areas identified by the Bridgeport Police Department as the location of reoccurring violent crime”.
That night a woman was shot at Trumbull Gardens with the Bridgeport Police Mobile Command Center parked just down the street. Viewers that live there said they know the command center is not staffed after hours. Acting Police Chief Rebecca Garcia has cracked down on overtime over the last year so it makes you wonder where that $100,000 is going to.If you look in the background of the picture you will see last night’s crime scene.

Atkinson, a member of the Department since July of 2001, is currently serving as Training Captain and Safety Officer as well as Deputy Emergency Management Director for the Town of Stratford.
