Firefighters arrived to a fire on Sedgewick Ave in Stratford. Upon arrival they had to combat heavy smoke conditions and fire to rescue several people and pets that were trapped. The extent of injuries is not known at this time.
On June 20, 2026, during the morning hours, the body of 34-year-old Kwahiwi Edwards of Queens, New York, was located on a beach near Shoreline Drive in Stratford. Mr. Edwards had been reported missing on June 13, 2026, after he and another fisherman became stranded on the reef at Penfield Beach as the incoming tide rapidly surrounded them. A witness entered the water in an attempt to assist the fishermen but was also swept into deeper water. Responding Fairfield Police officers successfully rescued the witness and the second fisherman; however, Mr. Edwards could not be located. The Stratford Police Department is warning residents about a bank impersonation scam that has recently targeted local residents and caused substantial financial losses. Scammers contact victims while posing as representatives from their bank. They often use spoofed phone numbers that appear to be legitimate bank numbers and may have personal information, account details or knowledge of recent transactions, making the call seem legitimate. The scammer creates a sense of urgency by claiming your account has been compromised, involved in fraud or linked to criminal activity. They then instruct victims to withdraw money from their accounts and send it through wire transfers, cash apps, cryptocurrency, gift cards or other methods. On May 26, 2026, at approximately 4:19 pm, the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received several calls for a collision involving a motor vehicle and a motorized scooter. The collision occurred at the intersection of North Avenue and Thompson Street. Bridgeport Police, Bridgeport Firefighters, and American Medical Response were dispatched to the location. Officers arrived on scene and observed Bridgeport Firefighters rendering medical aid to the operator of the motorized scooter. The motorized scooter operator was identified as an 18-year-old male of Bridgeport and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital. The operator of the gray Honda CRV stayed on scene. Jordan Miron Arrest Warrant Execution On May 12, 2026, a now 20-year-old female reported to the Stratford Police Department that she was the victim of sexual assault when she was a student while attending Stratford High School. A Detective Bureau investigation conducted over the last six days resulted with the arrest today of a former Stratford High School wrestling coach. Jordan Miron, age 36, is charged with Sexual Assault 2nd degree (actor is a coach). He was issued a May 19, 2026 court date and is being held in lieu of a $150,000.00 court set bond. Balzarano (08-23-1982) was identified as the deceased victim. He died as the result of suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The Stratford Police Department responded to 437 Woodstock Avenue on April 4, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers determined the disturbance was the result of a homicide. The incident is currently under active investigation by the Detective Bureau.
