How about some likes for a good news story? Several local cheer and dance teams traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Amercian Youth Cheerleading (AYC) National Championships. Each championship team would not only earn bragging rights but also blue championship jackets. The Shelton Lady Vikings sent three cheer teams to Orlando. The Bridgeport Charge captivated the audience and are Dance Division 18 winners. Other winners were the Ansonia Coppers and the Monroe Lions. Congratulations to all the competed!

Malloy today announced that $4.8 million in state grants are being awarded to support the purchase of 1,139 acres of land for 15 projects in 14 Connecticut municipalities that the state will designate to be preserved as open space. The grants are being awarded through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition program, which is administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and assists local governments, land trusts, and water companies in purchasing open space using funding from the Community Investment Act and state bond funds. The Naugatuck Valley Health District is hosting a free public flu vaccination clinic on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9-11AM at the NVHD office located at 98 Bank Street, Seymour, CT 06483. This clinic is open to anyone, regardless of insurance status, although if individuals have eligible insurance, they should bring their cards. Regular and high-dose (recommended for those aged 65 and older) vaccines are available. No appointments are necessary. The clinic will be supported by NVHD staff, Naugatuck Valley Medical Reserve Corps volunteers, and volunteer Nurses from Griffin Hospital’s Valley Parish Nurses. This news report is made possible by:

Firefighters called for smoke in a building at Assumption Church, Westport on Riverside Drive for smoke in the building. Then, a call from Assumption Church at North Cliff Street for an activated fire alarm. Westport's turned out to be an item smoldering in the furnace, contained in the furnace.
