Fairfield, CT - The Town of Fairfield’s Office of Community & Economic Development is pleased to announce that the Love Local Fairfield Heart Program has returned for the third consecutive year. In partnership with Fairfield schools and businesses, students from kindergarten through 5th grade, have decorated over 700 hearts that are on display in participating store windows from February 9 through February 27 all throughout the Town of Fairfield. The program is intended to spread the love throughout Fairfield and to showcase the Town‘s many small businesses as well as what students love best about Fairfield. Program Providing Direct Financial Relief for Student Loan Payments Made in 2025 (HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Office of Higher Education today announced that the Connecticut Student Loan Reimbursement Program has opened a new grant round and is now accepting applications for student loan payments that were made during the 2025 calendar year. Established in 2024, this program was created to provide direct financial relief to Connecticut residents burdened by student loan debt. Eligible applicants can apply for reimbursement grants of up to $5,000 per year, with a maximum reimbursement of $20,000 over four years. GOVERNOR LAMONT EXTENDS DURATION OF SEVERE COLD WEATHER PROTOCOL FOR SEVERAL ADDITIONAL DAYS

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is extending the duration of the state’s currently activated Severe Cold Weather Protocol to remain in effect through at least noon on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as this long-duration stretch of brutally frigid temperatures in Connecticut continues. The protocol was initially activated on Friday, January 23, 2026, and was most recently set to expire today at noon. However, the updated forecast now indicates that below seasonal averages with single-digit wind chills will remain for several additional mornings and evenings through this coming weekend. Update: Pedestrian Struck on East Washington Ave Remains in Critical Condition

https://youtube.com/shorts/dWQwez--dAw On February 9, 2026, at approximately 7:29 p.m., the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received multiple calls reporting that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle near the 100 block of East Washington Avenue. Bridgeport Police Officers responded to the scene and observed a pedestrian trapped underneath a gray vehicle in the eastbound lane. Bridgeport Fire Engine 1 arrived and extricated the pedestrian from beneath the vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to Bridgeport Hospital via AMR. The scene was secured, and the Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to conduct an on-scene reconstruction. Teen Arrested After Gunfire Inside Trumbull Mall

The youth was apprehended just after 8:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, near his home after he ran from detectives who approached him to serve the active arrest warrant. He was charged with Attempted Assault 1st Degree, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, as well as other related crimes.  The boy was one of several teenagers who were involved in a dispute inside the shopping mall on December 26, 2025, and was identified as the shooter following the police investigation. GOVERNOR LAMONT PROPOSES FREE SCHOOL BREAKFAST FOR ALL K-12 STUDENTS

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that the state budget proposal he presented to the Connecticut General Assembly yesterday includes the funding necessary to provide all K-12 public school students in the state with breakfast at no cost to them or their families at the start of each school day. Additionally, it includes funding to eliminate reduced-price lunch charges, making lunch free for students who currently qualify for reduced-price lunches. (Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong today released a new report under the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), detailing the Office’s actions in 2025 to enforce compliance with Connecticut’s data privacy law. The report discloses for the first time multiple active and ongoing investigations related to the safety of children and teens online across numerous platforms, including online messaging, gaming and chat bots. The CTDPA, which took effect in July 2023, grants important data rights to Connecticut residents and solidifies critical privacy requirements for covered businesses. GOVERNOR LAMONT SIGNS DECLARATION ENABLING CONNECTICUT TO CONTINUE RESPONDING TO FEDERAL CUTS ON ESSENTIAL SERVICES

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has signed a declaration that will enable the Connecticut General Assembly to adopt legislation allowing the recently created Emergency State Response Reserve to continue functioning through the end of the 2027 fiscal year. Established in November 2025, this reserve was created by Governor Lamont in collaboration with the General Assembly to quickly respond to millions of dollars in ongoing cuts toward essential services that are being made by President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. This includes through the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act and other federal legislation and federal administrative actions.
