Enhanced School Security Measures
The Westport Police Department, Board of Education, and Parks and Recreation want to remind residents and visitors about the new guidelines enacted to enhance school security. From 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM on school days, only students, staff, and those conducting school-related business are permitted on school properties. This includes Wakeman Park at Bedford Middle School, the Community Gardens at Long Lots Elementary School, and all athletic fields located on school grounds. Visitors conducting business at Wakeman Town Farm may use the designated parking area at Wakeman Town Park. School Security Officers and School Security Guards will be monitoring these areas to ensure compliance.
Westport News: One Arrested After Collision on Merritt Parkway
(Westport, CT, August 25, 2024) – At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, the Connecticut State Police contacted the Westport Police Department regarding an accident on the Merritt Parkway near the Clinton Avenue overpass. According to the State Police, three individuals fled from one of the involved vehicles, which was later confirmed to be stolen from another jurisdiction. A coordinated response from Westport and Norwalk police, along with state troopers, resulted in a large police presence on local streets near the accident site. One suspect was quickly apprehended, sustaining injuries from the collision and subsequently transported to Norwalk Hospital. https://youtu.be/wLhHx_05FPM On August 20, 2024, officers were dispatched to Trumbull Gardens on Trumbull Avenue for a high-visibility foot patrol in the federally subsidized housing complex, which has recently seen a rise in violent criminal activity, including shootings, drug sales, and robberies. While patrolling the 500 Block of Trumbull Avenue, officers observed five males loitering. One of them, later identified as Javier Cabrera, separated from the group and began running. Officers pursued him on foot through the housing complex. Cabrera entered an occupied apartment and concealed a black Glock 30 .45 Auto with obliterated serial numbers inside a shopping bag. Fairfield Police Conduct Search and Recovery Operation Following Discovery of Submerged Vehicle
FAIRFIELD, CT – On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at approximately 12:39 PM, the Fairfield Police Department was notified by the Weston Police Department of a vehicle submerged in the Aspetuck River, directly behind Aspetuck Falls in Fairfield. The vehicle was believed to have been at this location for several days and was found to be unoccupied. Upon arrival, Fairfield Police personnel confirmed that the vehicle appeared to be unoccupied. A Fairfield Police diver further confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle and that no individuals were located in or around the water near the vehicle.
