Today, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas gave an update on the absentee ballot process for Bridgeport's new mayoral primary on January 23, 2024. She shared that 3,620 absentee ballot applications were signed at the Bridgeport Town Clerk office by 10:30 a.m., with 4,690 applications requested by 3:30 p.m. Because the election campaign window is shorter, Secretary Thomas emphasized the importance of understanding the requirements for the absentee ballot process. Election monitors are working with the Bridgeport Town Clerk’s office to educate those who sign out applications. Due to a high number of requests, the Secretary of the State's Office reached out to the campaigns of both Democratic primary candidates to provide reminders on the process. BFD On-scene reports indicated a large active fire locate at 50-57 Cross Street at the Tradbe Facility and a third alarm was ordered. The BPD began evacuating a two-block radius and began alerting residents to shelter-in-place to avoid smoke exposure. On December 22, 2023, at around 11:00 pm, Bridgeport Police Officers swiftly responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Dekalb Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers located the victim, a 21-year-old Naugatuck man, who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound (a graze) to the head. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital by AMR Ambulance for medical treatment. The Detective Bureau assumed control of the investigation, conducting a thorough examination of the scene, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews. It was determined that the victim, seated in a parked car with friends from the Dekalb Avenue neighborhood, was shot. Bridgeport, CT— Last week, the City of Bridgeport Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) Board voted to approve a new ten-and-a-half-year agreement with Inframark, LLC. to run the day-to-day operations of the WPCA’s wastewater treatment facilities. Inframark, which has been the WPCA’s third-party operator for the last 10 years, was awarded the contract after an extensive bidding process and negotiation with the board. Under the new agreement which will take effect January 1, 2024, the WPCA will achieve a savings of over $60 million (approximately $6 million per year) relative to the existing operating agreement. The victim was transported to an area hospital via AMR Ambulance for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound (graze) to the head.
