HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $4.8 million in state grants are being awarded to support the purchase of 1,139 acres of land for 15 projects in 14 Connecticut municipalities that the state will designate to be preserved as open space. The grants are being awarded through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition program, which is administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and assists local governments, land trusts, and water companies in purchasing open space using funding from the Community Investment Act and state bond funds.  This grant program requires match by the grant recipient and requires the open space land be protected by a conservation and public recreation easement,…

Harry’s Wine & Liquor Market, Fairfield, recently sponsored its annual “Rare Bottles” fundraiser for Operation Hope of Fairfield to support its efforts to end hunger and end homelessness in the local community. On Saturdays throughout the month of October, Harry’s released a handful of hard-to-find bottles that were sold at 8:00 am on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a portion of the proceeds of bottle sales donated to Operation Hope. Each Saturday, a line snaked out the door before the doors opened, where patrons were eager to have the opportunity to snag some very rare bottles of scotch, bourbon, and whiskey. 4:34pm--#Fairfield CT--#Bridgeport CT-- Both Bridgeport and Fairfield sent out their first responders at the intersection of Brooklawn Avenue Villa/Hughes Avenue.  Multiple calls said there was a person trapped inside the vehicle that was rolled over but the person may have gotten themselves out prior to their arrival.  Multiple ambulances were dispatched but it is not known how many people were injured.

Pursuit Ends In Crash

Westport Police UPDATE:  At approximately 12:45am on 12/7/2018, officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle after a Bradley Street resident reported a vehicle driving slowly with headlights off and occupants getting in and out of the vehicle. Officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter. Officers observed a black Audi traveling northbound towards Hillspoint Road, away from the area, with at least four occupants. Another officer began to follow behind the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen out of Easton after a registration check. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Cross Highway. The suspect vehicle evaded police and engaged them in a pursuit onto Merritt Parkway North via exit 42.…

#Fairfield CT-- The town of Fairfield launched it's Shop Local campaign last week.  Mark Burnell, Economic Developer for the town of Fairfield said they are trying to make this an ongoing event not just for the holiday season.  Owner of Ganim's Garden Supply Lee Ganim said he'd rather see customers go to local shops instead of big box shops saying the quality and service is much better.   Ganim said every Saturday should be small business Saturday!    The campaign is stressing that fifty percent of money spent locally stays in the local community.
