STRATFORD – As part of a statewide effort from the Connecticut Tree Protective Association (CTPA), a white oak has been donated to the Town of Stratford, and planted on the green in front of Town Hall this week. The planting is in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the state’s Arborist Law. The law requires licensure for practicing arborists in the state, putting Connecticut ahead of other states when it comes to tree care. “I thank the CTPA for their gift to the Town of Stratford in commemoration of our state’s critical Arborist Law, and I am hopeful that this tree will grow strong and proud here out in front of our Town Hall building for residents…
This morning at approximately 10:30am, Coast Guard Long Island Sound announced over marine frequency a capsized boat located in the area of Middle Ground, Long Island Sound, Stratford Shoal Buoy #2 ( 4 subjects originally on board a 17’ center counsel boat). The USCG responded from Eaton’s Neck New York, located 3 male victims, and took them safely onto their vessel. Those 3 victims were transported to the Bridgeport Water Street Dock where medics began treatment and transported them to Bridgeport Hospital. The Bridgeport Police Marine Unit responded to “Middle Ground” with Ofcs. Del Valle and Peslak. They were met by the Fairfield Police Marine Unit. The Stratford Library continues the fall season of “Sunday Afternoon Talks”, its monthly series of informative and entertaining talks featuring prominent local guest speakers, on Sunday, November 3 at 2 pm with “Stories from Stratford: “Shag Carpet Toilet” & “St. Stan’s: Tales from the Penguin Academy”. Guest speaker is author Kenneth Lynch. “Sunday Afternoon Talks” is free and open to the public. Humorist Kenneth Lynch wrote two novels about his experiences growing up in Stratford in the early 1970s: “Shag Carpet Toilet” and “St. Stan’s: Tales from the Penguin Academy”. #Stratford CT-- On 9/23/2017, The Stratford Police Department responded to the report of the Fatal Overdose of 27 year old Stratford woman. The Stratford Police Department, along with DEA Bridgeport conducted an investigation into the victim’s death. It was learned that the victim had used Heroin and Fentanyl just prior to her death. The victim’s death was ruled an Overdose by the State Medical Examiner, showing an intoxication of Heroin, Fentanyl, and other substances. Through this investigation, Talvin Hinton age 43 of Bridgeport was identified as the individual who sold the victim the narcotics, just before her death. POLICE UPDATE: On 10-16-2019 at approximately 1156 am the Stratford Police Department responded to Big Y supermarket on Hawley Lane to investigate a car that struck the building. Upon arrival Officers found that a car drove through the front bay door and struck a customer. The injured customer was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation. 2019-10-16@11:55am #Stratford CT-- A car entered the Big Y at Hawley Lane this afternoon. Radio reports said there was no structural damage as the car entered an open door. The driver and passenger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. 2019-10-15 #Stratford CT-- #Fairfield CT-- In a report I was first to report here is the press release and mugshot from Stratford Police: On 10-15-2019 Stratford Police Officers investigated a commercial burglary at the CITGO Gas Station located at 805 Main Street. The burglary occurred at approximately 0115 am. Based on surveillance video a suspect and vehicle description was obtained. The suspect caused approximately $2000 dollars in damage to the business and stole approximately $300 dollars worth of merchandise. At approximately 0915 am Stratford Detectives observed the suspect vehicle, a red Pontiac Sunfire and attempted to stop the car. The operator refused to stop and Officers broke off the pursuit.
