Bridgeport Police Officer Passes

#Bridgeport CT--It is with great sadness that the Bridgeport Police Department announces the passing of Police Officer Jarah Matthews-Dixon passing suddenly in Stamford this evening.  He and his family had deep roots in Bridgeport, and on April 21, 2008 he fulfilled his dream of being a Bridgeport Police Officer. Officer Matthews-Dixon was a decorated 12 year member of the Bridgeport Police Department, receiving the Distinguished Service Medal and the Medal of Merit. His latest assignment was with the Fusion Center Team. Tong Seeks To Protect Rights Of Asylum Seekers

Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general, led by California, in filing a comment letter to the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to protect the rights of asylum-seekers from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. The letter opposes a new Trump Administration interim rule that will allow DOJ and DHS to remove asylum-seekers to countries where they face continued violence and persecution, and where inadequate justice systems cannot protect them.   Under the interim rule, which went into effect in November 2019, migrants from those countries who come to the United States seeking asylum can be forced away to other countries that have signed cooperative agreements with the federal government.   For…

HARTFORD, CT – Governor Ned Lamont applauded the passage of legislation his administration negotiated that strikes a proper balance in the ongoing issue of wages owed by restaurants to their employees. Felon With A Firearm

#Norwalk CT-- On December 27, 2019, at 6:43pm members of the Strategic Narcotics Enforcement Team observed an Infinity sedan travelling on Chestnut Street. The operator of the vehicle, who was later identified as Kimani Williams, was driving erratically. Officers stopped Williams on South Main Street and immediately noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officer observed loose marijuana and a marijuana grinder in the front seat area of the vehicle. When officers searched the car, they found a loaded .357 handgun, which had been stolen out of Virginia. Officers also discovered additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
