Westport News: Career Coach Returns

#Westport, CT - Director of Human Services Elaine Daignault announces the return of the American Job Center Southwest’s (formerly known as CTWorks) Career Coach at Westport Town Hall.  On Thursday, November 8, 2018 the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft Excel 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in Excel 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m.  The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with ten wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area.  The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities. Westport News: Town Clerk’s Office Hours Extended

Westport, CT -  Town Clerk Patricia Strauss announced today that the Town Clerk’s office will be open for absentee voting this Saturday, November 3rdfrom 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  These special office hours are scheduled to accommodate voters applying for an ABSENTEE BALLOT to vote in the STATE ELECTION to be held November 6, 2018. Absentee ballots are available at the Town Clerk’s office daily, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  They will be available through Monday, November 5, until 4:30 p.m.  Ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, when the polls officially close. Westport News: Larceny, Car Theft

During the early morning hours of 12/30/2016, a Lexus was stolen from the driveway of a Compo Road South address. The vehicle had been unlocked with the keys left inside. On 02/26/2017, the vehicle was recovered in Waterbury, CT. A handgun and cell phone, both of which did not belong to the owner, were later recovered from the vehicle. Forensic evidence later linked Earnest Owens of Waterbury, CT to an empty iced tea can found in the vehicle. Further forensic testing linked Owens to the driver’s seat area of the stolen vehicle. Text messages contained in the found cell phone referred to the owner as “JR.” According to Owen’s driver’s license, his legal name was Earnest E. Owens, Jr. An…

Westport, CT - Department of Human Services Director Elaine Daignault announced today that Positive Youth Development and collaborating partners, will host a free community presentation on October 24th at 7PM at Westport Town Hall Auditorium on parenting called “Delay Your Gray” by Liz Driscoll Jorgensen, CADC of Insight Counseling and Newport Academy. Westport, CT -  Registrars of Voters Marla Cowden and Kevin White announced today that the Registrars of Voters Office in Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Room 107, will be open Monday through Friday (except holidays), from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for voter registration. Westport News: Nixle Public Safety Alerts Replaces Code Red

The Westport Fire and Police Departments have partnered with Nixle to implement its “Community Notification System”. This will alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories. This system will improve the safety of all our residents. The Westport Police Department has been using Nixle to provide traffic advisories for the past four years and it has proven to be reliable and easy-to-use.
