Westport Cops Need Your Help

#Westport CT– The Westport Police Department is seeking the community’s help in identifying the man pictured below in connection with a larceny investigation. On July 3, 2018 at approximately 5:15pm, the male pictured below entered a Westport retailer. While inside the business, the suspect stole twelve pairs of eyeglass frames by concealing them in the pockets of his pants. Shortly after the suspect left the business, employees noticed the missing frames and contacted the Westport Police Department.

 

Traffic Advisory for 2018 Fine Arts Festival

The 2018 Fine Arts Festival will be taking place this coming weekend (July 14 – 15) in the center of Westport. To accommodate the vendors and assure the safety of the pedestrians the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic during the festival: Main Street (from Post Rd. E. to Avery Place); Elm Street (from The Baldwin Lot to Main Street); Church Lane (from Elm Street to Post Road East); and Taylor Place. Main Street and Elm Street will close Friday, July 13th at 3:00 p.m. and is scheduled to reopen Sunday July15 th at 9:00 p.m. Church Lane and Taylor Place will close during the early morning hours of July 14th and they will both reopen Sunday at 9:00 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays when traveling through the center of town during the event.

Computer Crime & Criminal Attempt To Obtained Drugs

#Westport CT–In February, police were dispatched to a local medical office on a report of a fraudulent prescription. The investigating officer learned an employee registered a fictitious patient with the practice and created a prescription in that name. The employee, identified as Melba Witter, later called in a fraudulent prescription to a pharmacy in New York. The prescription was refused and as a result, was not filled. The officer submitted an arrest warrant application for Witter, which was later approved. On 06/29/18, Witter turned herself in at police headquarters on the active arrest warrant. She was charged with 53a-49/21a-108 Criminal Attempt to Illegally Obtain Prescription Legend Drugs and 53a-256 Computer Crime 5 th . Witter was released after posting $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on 07/09/2018.

Westport News: Jobs Coach Returns

Westport, CT – Elaine Daignault, Director of the Department of Human Services announces the return of the American Job Center Southwest’s (formerly known as CTWorks) Career Coach at Westport Town Hall.  On Thursday, July 12 the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in PowerPoint 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m.  The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with ten wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area.  The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities.

The annual PAL fireworks display is set for Monday, July 2, 2018, with a rain date of Tuesday, July 3, 2018. This is a well-attended event that features heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic affecting all roads south of Greens Farms Road between South Compo Road and Hillspoint Road. It is recommended that spectators plan to arrive early as traffic delays are inevitable. The beach should reopen to ticket holders by 5:00 PM, however, this determination will be made by Westport Parks and Recreation staff. Pedestrians attending the fireworks are reminded not to walk on the roads and to use sidewalks when going to and from Compo Beach. It is recommended that pedestrians wear bright clothing and parents please keep an eye on small children at all times!

 

For ticket holders: – Access to the PAL Fireworks display will be through South Compo Road only. Hillspoint Road south of Greens Farms Road will be open to residents with residences south of that intersection. – Firework attendees should display the ticket prominently on the dashboard so that it can be seen clearly when traveling to the event. For those who do not have tickets: – Vehicles without a ticket will not be able to go any further towards Compo Beach at the Minuteman statue. Shuttle buses will run from Longshore Park by the marina to Compo Beach. – Those utilizing Uber, Lyft, or Taxi services will be directed straight past the Minuteman Statue on Compo Road South. From there visitors can walk from the area of Compo Road South and Soundview Drive to the beach. NOTE: If you choose to use this method of transportation return service will not be available until after 11pm due to 1-way traffic exiting the beach area.

Westport News: Multiple Charges

#Westport CT–On 06/22/2018 at approximately 7:00pm, officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at Starbucks. Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect attempted to go to a second floor storage area. When he was told by employees the area was not for customers, he began screaming at the employees and refused to leave after multiple requests to do so. At one point, he was reported to have lunged over the counter at employees. The suspect left the scene when police were contacted. Officers located the suspect, identified as Carl Nicolas, a short distance away. Nicolas struggled with officers who attempted to detain him. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to headquarters where he refused to answer basic demographic questions, which are part of the booking process. Nicolas also refused to be fingerprinted until the following day. He was charged with 53a- 181 Breach of Peace, 53a-107 Criminal Trespass 1 st , 53a-167a Interfering with an Officer and 29-12 Failure to Submit to Fingerprinting. Nicolas was unable to post $500 bond was transported to court for arraignment on 06/25/18.
