Fairfield News: Signs, Signs Everywhere A Sign

If you think there are a lot more signs cropping up all over town you aren’t imagining it and no it isn’t political season…..yet. I’ve been in talks with First Selectman Michael C. Tetreau for about three weeks now regarding the advertising signs cropping up all over the town. The signs seem to be cropping up on public common areas at library, school and major intersections. But if you look around the visual pollution has been seen in Bridgeport, Stratford and even in Derby. The biggest issue for Fairfield has been enforcement. As soon as the town takes them down more go back up. They are illegal but there is not enough town employees to enforce it. The first selectman is looking for ideas. Anyone have any enforcement ideas? Is your town under sign attack?

VIDEO REPORT– ©2014 DoingItLocal.com NOT FOR BROADCAST Internet use permissible with commercial pre-roll and watermarks remaining in the video at all times.
Around 12:45 Monday morning State Police started following a Green Jeep headed northbound on I-95 near exit 17.

They did not engage in pursuit until clearing traffic in Fairfield.  Fairfield Police were called into the pursuit early on and officers were at the ready with spike strips at designated locations.  Speeds never exceed 60 miles per hour.  Police were successful on their first try with the spike strips and the Jeep got off the highway at exit 22.  The driver led police down Grasmere Avenue then to the Circle. Police radios got quiet until the Jeep was on Kings Highway East near Miller Nissan.

The pursuit continued down North Avenue in Bridgeport where Bridgeport Police entered the pursuit.  The Jeep continued down Pacific and Staples Streets where the pursuit ended on Atwater Street near Norman Street where the Jeep caught fire. Police tried using handheld extinguishers but the fire proved to be too much.  Three separate police departments coordinated as one and in no time the suspect was apprehended. I’m told the suspect was found hiding behind trash cans.  At that time the firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.

We do not know what the suspect was wanted for but it is certain his charges will be much more than the original charges.  If we get any further updates I’ll let you know at DoingItLocal.com

Westport Little League Embezzlement

In March of this year the board of the Westport Little League contacted the Westport Police Department regarding the results from their yearly internal audit. Board members presented the results of the audit which showed that over $40,000.00 worth of funds and equipment were unaccounted for.

All of the items were found to emanate from one individual who was given authorization from the board to order equipment and submit expense reports for reimbursement. The investigation then focused on this individual who was interviewed by detectives and eventually admitted to falsifying invoices, cancelling orders after submitting invoices for equipment so that payment was made to him by the league but the items were never delivered, billing the league for clinics that were never held, having parents pay for hotel rooms and expense’s for out of town games and then not paying them back even though he submitted invoices and was reimbursed by the League, and selling league merchandise and keeping the money.

Arrested was the following: Kevin Hlavac, 39 years of age 132 Grey Stone Rd Bridgeport CT.
