Bridgeport Kicks Off Black History Month

[caption id="attachment_6324" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Bridgeport Launches Black History Month"][/caption] City Hall Annex was the kick off for Black History Month for the City of Bridgeport.  Deborah Caviness kicked off the event and Natalie Pryce was master ceremonies.  Mayor Bill Finch brought his insight and introduced the hit of the event Muhammad Drammeh, 12, is an eighth grade honor student who recited  President Barack Obama’s historic inaugural speech from memory.   Chef Pierre of the Metric Restaurant and Grill on Cannon Street was the big hit with a history and sampling of soul food.  The food was so good it will be a future restaurant review for DoingItLocal.com!

Fairfield PD Nab 3 Redding Road Break In

The homeowner/ victim witnessed a suspect attempting to break a rear window and gain entry into her home. She called “911” describing the suspect as a white male, approximately twenty two years of age, with a thin build fleeing on foot through the front yard. He continued southbound on Redding Road to an awaiting small silver vehicle, parked approximately 100 yards away. Patrol Officers set up a perimeter of the surrounding streets and quickly located a motor vehicle traveling southbound on Bronson Road matching the description. Kids Injured In Bridgeport School Bus Accident

Just before 3:30pm Monday afternoon a school bus traveling down Chopsey Hill Road near the intersection of Trumbull Avenue when a car reportedly swerved into the buses lane of travel. The bus swerved to miss the car but hit a utility pole. About 6-10 children were injured when they hit their heads either on the bus seat in front of them or on the windows. The children were checked as a precaution. No one was seriously injured. The uninjured children were transferred on to another bus and continued home.

6yr Old Charge with Sexual Assualt Playing Tag

San Francisco CA--HERCULES (CBS 5) – An East Bay dad claims a game of tag on the playground resulted in his 6-year-old son being accused of sexual assault – a decision he said was an overreaction by school officials. The parent, who asked only to be identified as Oswin, said his son was accused of brushing his best friend’s leg or groin while the two were playing on the playground at Lupine Hills Elementary in Hercules two months ago. Oswin said his child was kept in the principal’s office for two hours until he confessed. He was suspended, and a sexual battery charge was placed on his permanent school record. Fire on Wade Street Bridgeport

Shortly after 11:15pm Saturday night firefighters were called to 247 Wade Street for a structure fire.  Firefighters found the back of the structure on fire.  A strong breeze was concern but their quick work prevented the fire from spreading further.  Homeowner Doreen Wallace Davis was at work when the blaze broke out.   she lives elsewhere.  The house was vacant at the time but a primary search was conducted which turned out negative.  Acting Assistant Fire Chief James Cook told us upon arrival the house was heavily involved in fire from the rear, the first two engine companies  got an attack line in and did an initial search.    No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.
