Today’s Vehicle Fire
6:40pm--#Westport Connecticut--The Westport Fire department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on the Merritt Parkway Southbound at exit 42. The initial dispatch was for Engine 6, Engine 2 and the Shift Commander. Engine 6 arrived first and reported a fully involved passenger vehicle fire in the breakdown lane. Engine 2 arrived shortly after and both companies worked to extinguish the fire and provide overhaul. One lane of travel was temporarily shut down during firefighting operations. UPDATE: The tractor trailer has been located at JFK airport and the driver arrested according to police. 2:16pm--Chief Perez confirmed a hit and run driver killed a man crossing Wordin Avenue between Howard Avenue and Hancock Avenue in front of the Wheelabrator Renewable Energy from Waste Facility.
