Westport News: Whole Foods Fire

#Westport CT-- Last night, Westport Firefighters was dispatched to a report of a kitchen fire at Whole Foods Market at 7:04 PM. Four Engine Companies, one Truck Company and the Command Car were on the initial dispatch. Additionally, one Engine from Norwalk Fire was sent to the scene. Arriving firefighters found the store to be occupied and had the building evacuated. The source of the fire was found to be improperly stored combustibles on top of a pizza oven. The fire activated the kitchen hood system extinguishing agent, extinguishing any fire in the ductwork. Store employees extinguished the remaining burning combustibles prior to the Fire departments arrival. Firefighters secured the utilities to the oven and laddered the building to check…

Westport News: Compactor Fire

UPDATE:  Due to a recent fire in the compactor unit at the Westport Transfer Station, Public Works Director Peter Ratkiewich is reminding all residents that spent ashes are to be disposed of in the clearly marked special ash bin available at the station.  Ashes should never be dumped in to the trash compactor. Westport News: Traffic Stop Nets Gun And Drugs

#Westport, CT-- At approximately 2:45PM on January 11, 2018, Officer Smith observed a vehicle traveling with an improperly displayed registration plate. The license plate was checked and was found to be registered to a different motor vehicle. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Saugatuck Avenue in the area of Duck Pond Road. Upon approach, Officer Smith detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A K-9 unit was requested to the scene. The operator was identified as Abdullah Seifullah, 37, of Stamford, CT. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Jerrod Smalls, 36, of Norwalk, CT. A Norwalk Police K9 unit arrived on scene and searched the suspect vehicle. #Westport CT--The Westport Police Department is proud to announce that we will be offering another adult Citizens’ Police Academy this spring. This is in addition to the Youth Citizens’ Police AcademyThe nine-week course begins on March 7 th . Participants will gain a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community. The academy can accommodate up to twenty-four community members who will participate in classes designed to take them through the various aspects of law enforcement. They will learn about the different divisions and specialized units of the department as well as how the department operates. #Westport CT--The Westport Police Department is proud to announce that we will be offering a Citizens’ Police Academy for Westport teens beginning on February 27, 2018. Participants will establish a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community and laws affecting teens. The academy can accommodate up to twenty-four Westport high school students who will participate in classes designed to take them through the various aspects of law enforcement. Academy instructors consist of highly trained and experienced Westport Police Officers. Westport News: Cleaned Out By The Cleaners

#Westport CT--On 7/11/13, the victim forgot his money clip containing cash, license and credit cards in a pair of pants, which went to a local dry cleaner. Officers learned store employee Keeann Bardliving located the money in the victim’s pants and kept it. The investigating officer submitted an arrest warrant application for Bardliving, which was later approved and signed by a judge. On 01/03/2018, Westport headquarters was contacted by the Greenwich Police Department where Bardliving was being detained on the outstanding arrest warrant. Bardliving was transported to Westport headquarters where she was charged with 53a-125b Larceny 6 th . She was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on 01/10/18.

Westport News: Pot Bust

(Westport, CT) On December 29, 2017 at approximately 4:45pm, a detective observed a vehicle traveling with a non-functioning tail light. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Compo Road South. Upon approach, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. The operator was identified as Williman Olivero, 27, of Norwalk, CT. With the assistance of a Westport K-9 unit, multiple glassine bags of marijuana packaged for sale, a scale, and “vape” cartridges containing THC oil were located and seized. Officers learned Olivero had been selling the marijuana while working in Westport. In total, more than 67 grams of marijuana were seized along with currency believed to be the proceeds from marijuana sales. Olivero was taken into custody…
