Westport CT-- The Westport Police Department successfully brought awareness to area residents during its annual Click It or Ticket high-visibility seat belt enforcement campaign, held May 21st-June 3rd, writing a total of 37 citations for seat belt violations in the process. Westport News Shoplifting Arrest

#Westport CT--On 05/25/18 at approximately 3:15pm, officers were dispatched to a Main Street retailer on a report of a shoplifting. An employee reported that three individuals shoplifted from the store and then placed the items into a vehicle parked outside. The employee provided the license plate of the suspect vehicle and descriptions of the suspects. Detectives surveilled the vehicle until the three suspects returned to the car. The suspects were identified as Camaleetha Davis and Sophia Grant, both of Bronx, NY, and Rushane Dwyer of Brooklyn, NY. Each suspect was found in possession of shoplifting devices for removing security tags. Dwyer and Davis were found with magnetic devices also commonly used for removing security tags. #Westport CT-- On Monday, Westport Fire Department dispatchers received numerous calls for an animal rescue on I95. A family of ducks had been observed trying to navigate I95 at rush hour, resulting in nine ducklings falling into a storm drain.   Rescue 3 and the Shift Commander responded to I95 North to provide assistance, meeting up with CT State Police Troopers just prior to exit 17. A DOT Safety Patrol vehicle provided critical barrier protection for those working on the highway.   Firefighters used a variety of hand tools, hydraulic rescue tools and metering equipment to gain access to the storm drain. Westport News: Larceny

#Westport CT--On 12/27/17, Sue Stebbins had a procedure performed at Westport MediSpa. The cost of the procedure was over $12,000. Stebbins told the complainants she would be coming into money from a business transaction and would pay them later. After months of attempting to receive payment from Stebbins, the bill still went unpaid. The investigating officer submitted an arrest warrant for Stebbins, which was later granted. On 05/08/2018, Stebbins turned herself in on the active arrest warrant. She was charged with 53a-123 Larceny 2 nd and released after posting $20,000 court set bond. Bridgeport News: Body Found Washed Ashore

Police UPDATE: The deceased was later positively identified through fingerprint examination as Gregory Garoffolo, 60, of Westport, CT. Investigators learned that Garoffolo’s vehicle had been located on the Interstate 95 Saugatuck River overpass during the early morning hours of May 4 th and was subsequently towed by the Connecticut State Police. According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, he sustained injuries consistent with a fall and drowning. Westport News: Fraudulent Checks

#Westport CT--On 04/27/2018 at approximately 3:15pm, officers were dispatched to Bank of America on a report of a two fraudulent checks that had just been passed. While en route to that location, officers were advised the suspect was now at a second Bank of America location in town. Upon arrival there, officers located the suspect exiting the lobby and attempted to detain him. He struggled and broke free only to be taken into custody a moment later with assistance from bank security. Westport News: Caretaker Pawns Items

#Westport News: On 02/26/2018, an officer reviewing recent Westport pawn and precious metals transactions observed multiple silver items sold by Maribeth Nixon. The silver items were engraved with initials different than her own. Nixon was known to the department as a caretaker for a local elderly woman with initials matching those engraved on the silver items. Detectives later interviewed Nixon and learned she had stolen the silver from her client. An arrest warrant application was submitted and granted by a judge. On 04/17/2018, Nixon turned herself in at police headquarters on the active warrant. She was charged with 53a-124 Larceny 3 rd and held on $25,000 court set bond.
