#Westport CT–On 12/27/17, Sue Stebbins had a procedure performed at Westport MediSpa. The cost of the procedure was over $12,000. Stebbins told the complainants she would be coming into money from a business transaction and would pay them later. After months of attempting to receive payment from Stebbins, the bill still went unpaid. The investigating officer submitted an arrest warrant for Stebbins, which was later granted. On 05/08/2018, Stebbins turned herself in on the active arrest warrant. She was charged with 53a-123 Larceny 2 nd and released after posting $20,000 court set bond. Stebbins is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on 05/21/18.

Westport, CT – Director of Human Services Elaine Daignault announces the return of the American Job Center Southwest’s (formerly known as CTWorks) Career Coach at Westport Town Hall.  On Thursday, May 10, 2018 the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft Excel 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in Excel 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m.  The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with ten wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area.  The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities.

Police UPDATE: The deceased was later positively identified through fingerprint examination as Gregory Garoffolo, 60, of Westport, CT. Investigators learned that Garoffolo’s vehicle had been located on the Interstate 95 Saugatuck River overpass during the early morning hours of May 4 th and was subsequently towed by the Connecticut State Police. According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, he sustained injuries consistent with a fall and drowning. Garoffolo’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

 

#Westport, CT– At approximately 8:40 am this morning, a resident contacted police
headquarters to report a body which had washed up on the shore of Harbor Road. Police
responded to the area and located a deceased male at the water line. The male has not been
identified at this time. The Westport Detective Bureau is currently investigating and awaiting
the arrival of personnel from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

#Westport CT–On 04/27/2018 at approximately 3:15pm, officers were dispatched to Bank of America on a report of a two fraudulent checks that had just been passed. While en route to that location, officers were advised the suspect was now at a second Bank of America location in town. Upon arrival there, officers located the suspect exiting the lobby and attempted to detain him. He struggled and broke free only to be taken into custody a moment later with assistance from bank security. Officers learned the suspect attempted to deposit two more fraudulent checks at that location.

 

The suspect was identified as Wandy Cruz, 18, of Brooklyn, NY. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of 53a-128 Issuing a Bad Check and 53a-49 Attempt to Commit (Larceny 4th) for his actions at the first location. He was additionally charged with 53a- 128 Issuing a Bad Check, two counts of 53a-49 Attempt to Commit (Larceny 4 th ) and 53a-167a Interfering with an Officer for his actions at the second Bank of America location. Cruz was held on a total of $10,000 bond, which he was unable to post. He was transported to Norwalk Court this morning.

#Westport News: On 02/26/2018, an officer reviewing recent Westport pawn and precious metals transactions observed multiple silver items sold by Maribeth Nixon. The silver items were engraved with initials different than her own. Nixon was known to the department as a caretaker for a local elderly woman with initials matching those engraved on the silver items. Detectives later interviewed Nixon and learned she had stolen the silver from her client. An arrest warrant application was submitted and granted by a judge. On 04/17/2018, Nixon turned herself in at police headquarters on the active warrant. She was charged with 53a-124 Larceny 3 rd and held on $25,000 court set bond. Nixon was unable to post her bond and was transported to court for the arraignment later that morning.

2:44pm–#cttraffic–#Westport CT– Expect delays after this crash taking up the left lane and shoulder on I-95 northbound near exit 18.

 

#Westport CT—At approximately 3:00pm on 04/08/2017, officers were dispatched to the Black Duck Café on a report of a woman who left a cab without paying her fare. The woman was back inside the cab upon the arrival of officers. Officers provided the woman a ride back to her vehicle, which was parked at Longshore and which she claimed contained her money. After locating her vehicle, officers observed it matched the suspect vehicle involved in the previous incident. Once at her vehicle, she became agitated, uncooperative and refused to provide her identification. While attempting to sit in her vehicle, the woman struck one of the officers with her car door. She was handcuffed and placed in the rear of a patrol car while officers searched for her identification. While officers were searching for the woman’s license, she began pushing on the windows of the patrol vehicle with her feet. The woman was ultimately identified as Jacqueline Bracht, 34, of Middletown, CT. She was transported to headquarters where she was charged with 53a-125b Larceny 6 th and 53a-167a Interfering with an Officer. Bracht was additionally charged with 14-222 Reckless Driving for the incident that took place earlier in the day. Bracht was initially held on a total of $1,500 bond. Her bonds were later lowered to Promise to Appears by the bail commissioner. Bracht is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on 04/17/18.
