Bridgeport Police Contract Agreed Upon

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Mayor Ganim announced today that the city’s Department of Labor has reached a contract agreement with the Bridgeport Police Union Local, 1159.  This agreement is a fair compensation for the police officers and in the best of the City.   The City also extended these terms of the contract an additional year to June 30, 2021 which will eliminate incurring additional expenses related to negotiating a new contract.

New terms of the agreement that are a cost savings or will increase revenue for the city include:

  • Article 37.2 (B) – An increased police surcharge rate from $10.00 to $17.00 per hour. This increase brings additional revenue to the City and helps to offset the City’s share of costs associated with CMERS.

  • Article 25 – Minimum Pay for Call Back and Off-Duty Arrests and Off-Duty Court.

The City has also reduced the call back pay from a mandatory (8) hours to a (4) hour minimum. This not only saves the City costs associated with overtime pay but also reduces unnecessary overtime.

  • Article 11.4 – This helps the City expedite the disciplinary process preventing Officers from being out of work on paid leave for an extended period of time, reducing costs incurred by the City.

“I am very happy that this contract agreement has been resolved in a fair and equitable way for all parties.  A number of the points that were agreed to in this contract will go a long way towards meeting our collective challenges,” stated Mayor Ganim.

BRIDGEPORT, CT – El alcalde Ganim anunció hoy que el Departamento de trabajo de la ciudad ha llegado a un acuerdo contractual con el Sindicato de policías de Bridgeport local, 1159. 2019-04-24 @ 5:40pm–#Bridgeport Ct– Police are investigating an assault at State and Park Avenue.  It was first thought to be a person hit by a vehicle that fled but turned out to be the victim of a robbery.  The victim was hit with a pipe, his backpack taken and the suspect fled on a black bicycle down Park Avenue.

Westport News: Social Security Scam

#Westport CT–On 04/22/2019, a Westport resident received a phone call from someone purporting to work for the Social Security Administration using what appeared on the caller identification as a legitimate phone number for the Social Security Administration. The caller told the resident her social security number was being used fraudulently in another state. The caller also knew her name and correct social security number. Minutes after ending the call, later the victim received a phone call from what appeared to be the Westport Police Department non-emergency line, 203-341-6000. The caller identified himself as a Westport Police officer and said he was investigating the illegal use of the victim’s social security number. The victim was told her assets would be frozen and suggested transferring $10,000 to a special account, so that she would have available funds during the investigation. The victim was instructed to send the money in the form of Bitcoin. The victim sent $4,000 before she realized she had been scammed.

 

Criminals are disguising their phone numbers to appear legitimate. If you have any doubts as to the legitimacy of a call, whether the caller claims to be an employee of a utility company, the Social Security Administration, IRS etc., we recommend that you hang up before providing any personal information and contact the agency/company directly. The Westport Police Department does not establish special accounts to hold the personal funds of residents during an investigation. Fairfield News: Tense Stand off With Police In A Bank

On April 23 rd , 2019, the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau was conducting an investigation into bank fraud related to the theft of approximately $120,000 from an elderly person residing in Texas. The suspects in this matter were conducting these fraudulent transactions at Bankwell, located at 1 Sasco Hill Road in Southport. At approximately 4:00pm on the 23 rd , Detectives observed Carl Myers, DOB 9/24/72 of 358 Exeter Street in Bridgeport enter the bank. When Myers was confronted by detectives, he drew a pistol which he had concealed in his pants. A tense stand-off ensued between Myers and several officers in the bank, with several officers holding Myers at gunpoint and issuing repeated orders to drop his weapon. Myers eventually lowered his pistol and then became combative with officers. He physically resisted arrest and had to be Tasered. He was taken into custody and examined at the hospital due to his being tasered. One detective sustained an injury to his knee during this incident. No shots were fired at any time.

As a continuation of this investigation, a search warrant was executed in Bridgeport by Fairfield and Bridgeport officers. At that time, Tanika Haase DOB 11/4/89, was taken into custody when more evidence of the financial crimes was located in her possession. The following charges were brought against Carl Myers: 1. Larceny 1 st Degree 2. Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the First Degree 3. Robbery 1 st Degree 4. Threatening First Degree 5. Reckless Endangerment First Degree 6. Assault on a Police Officer 7. Interfering with an officer 8. Risk of Injury to a Minor ( Myers brought his 9 year old child with him) .

The following charges were brought against Tanika Haase: 1. Larceny 1 st 2. Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1 st 3. Interfering with an Officer Myers is being held on $500,000 bond. His court date is 5/07/2019 Haase is being held on $150,000 bond. Her court date is 5/07/2019 This is an ongoing investigation.

Bridgeport News: Kidnapping OR Domestic Dispute

2019-04-24 @ 11:11pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police received a report of a possible kidnapping that took place on East Avenue and Cross Street which included a baby in the car.  Police quickly located the car around the corner on Barnum Avenue.  Police also was investigating on Cross Street and Bishop Avenue connected with this incident.  An ambulance was called to check the condition of the child.  Police are still investigating.
