A Tale Of Two Boat Rescues

At approximately 3:33 PM today, a report was received about a large 200-foot yacht on fire in Long Island Sound. There were around 23 people on board. The Bridgeport Fire Department led the response, with support from Stratford and Fairfield Fire Departments, along with the Coast Guard.

The yacht safely returned to shore, and no injuries were reported.

Later, a canoe overturned in the Pequonnock River near East Washington Avenue. Firefighters rescued the man, but it is currently unknown if he sustained any injuries.

Norwalk News: Juvenile Arrested in Shooting Incident

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 6:54 PM, the Norwalk Police Department received multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the Roodner Court Public Housing Complex at 261 Ely Ave. Patrol Officers arrived on the scene and found evidence that shots had been fired. As officers were on scene, information was gained that a 15-year-old victim had been dropped off at Norwalk Hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Norwalk Detectives assumed the investigation and gathered enough evidence to charge a 16-year-old juvenile with the shooting. The juvenile was remanded to Juvenile Detention.

The case remains active and ongoing. The arrested juvenile faces charges of Assault 1st, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.

Route 8/25 Crash

A car crashed in the rocks on Route 8/25 southbound near exit 5 with injuries. There was extensive intrusion into the car and first responders were delayed extrication and care of the person(s) due to having to drive to Trumbull to turn around to go southbound. Bridgeport Fire Commissioner James Meszoros has been advocating the state for an emergency vehicle turnaround to prevent delays.
