Stratford Police Warn Residents About Bank Impersonation Scam

The Stratford Police Department is warning residents about a bank impersonation scam that has recently targeted local residents and caused substantial financial losses. Scammers contact victims while posing as representatives from their bank. They often use spoofed phone numbers that appear to be legitimate bank numbers and may have personal information, account details or knowledge of recent transactions, making the call seem legitimate. The scammer creates a sense of urgency by claiming your account has been compromised, involved in fraud or linked to criminal activity. They then instruct victims to withdraw money from their accounts and send it through wire transfers, cash apps, cryptocurrency, gift cards or other methods. Within the past month alone, residents have lost hundreds of thousands…

Bridgeport Celebrates Juneteenth

https://youtu.be/M2Hw18HSAfM Bridgeport marked Juneteenth today with a celebration of freedom, culture, history, and community. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. The day has since become a time to reflect on the end of slavery in the United States while also celebrating Black history, achievement, family, and community pride. In Bridgeport, the holiday brought people together to honor that history while enjoying music, food, vendors, fellowship, and family-friendly activities. For many, Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder of the long road toward equality, justice, and opportunity. The holiday is now recognized nationally, but in Bridgeport, Juneteenth remains deeply local:…

Hwang Calls For Fairfield Speed Camera Pause

https://youtu.be/VtsxVHTmlVo State Sen. Tony Hwang, ranking Republican leader on the Transportation Committee, is calling on Fairfield officials to pause the town’s speed camera program after warning-period data projected nearly 190,000 violations in May. Hwang said the number is “alarming and shocking,” but not surprising, arguing that speeding has become normalized across Fairfield and other Connecticut communities. He said he continues to support speed and red-light cameras as a public safety tool, but believes Fairfield should use the May warning period to improve education, signage, public awareness and transparency before full enforcement continues.
