Bridgeport News: Officer Involved Shooting

On October 5, 2024, Bridgeport Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Terry Place following reports of an emotionally disturbed person. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male suspect who brandished a knife, leading to an officer-involved shooting. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Huntley Jackson of Bridgeport, CT, was transported to Saint Vincent’s Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. He is under arrest for Criminal Attempt – Murder, Assault in the 1st Degree, Assault on a Public Safety Officer, Threatening in the 2nd Degree, Interfering/Resisting Arrest, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, with a bond set at $1 million.

One of the primary responding officers was assaulted and stabbed by the suspect in the shoulder, neck, and head. The officer was promptly transported to an area hospital for treatment and has since been released.

As mandated by the Connecticut Police Accountability Act, a thorough investigation into the use of deadly force will be conducted by the Office of the Inspector General, the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad, and the Office of the State’s Attorney – Judicial District of Bridgeport. Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter Sr. expresses confidence in the Office of the Inspector General to ensure a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation. In accordance with department protocol, the officer(s) involved in this incident will be placed on modified duty pending the investigation’s outcome.

The City of Bridgeport Announces 2024 Citywide Milling & Paving

Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport has announced that the Department of Public Facilities will begin milling and road paving throughout the City beginning Monday, October 7, 2024. Milling and paving will begin in the 139th District and will continue throughout various neighborhoods, finishing in the 136th District.

Please note, “milling” is the process of grinding and removing the current top layer of pavement.  Drivers are advised to use caution during the milling process.

During this time, drivers are advised of the following:

  • Adhere to “No Parking” signs: all areas will be enforced 24 hours ahead of paving; cars will be towed if interruption to paving occurs.
  • Follow any “Detour” signs: drivers may need additional time to reach your destination so please plan accordingly.
  • Drive carefully: drivers should be mindful of raised structures, manhole covers, and rough edges or bumps at paving limits.

Stolen Car Pursuit Ends in Crash, Two Arrested

A vehicle pursuit and arrest followed a stolen car incident this morning. At around 9:30 AM, a Wilton Police vehicle was struck by a stolen grey Mazda occupied by two men, which fled toward the Merritt Parkway. The Mazda had been stolen at gunpoint in Bridgeport on September 26.

Fairfield Police spotted the Mazda shortly after, and a pursuit ensued when the driver accelerated. The vehicle exited at Exit 51, where officers tried to deploy tire deflation devices, but the driver re-entered the Merritt Parkway, driving in the wrong direction. At 9:47 AM, the stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle carrying five occupants. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

The two suspects fled on foot. One, identified as 21-year-old Elijah Holloman of Bridgeport, was quickly apprehended by a Fairfield K9 officer. The second suspect, 26-year-old Dominique Adrian Reid, was arrested later after being found at Fairfield Police Department Headquarters while trying to bond out Holloman.

Both suspects were charged with multiple offenses, including larceny of a motor vehicle and interfering with an officer. They are being held on $100,000 bond each.

A disturbing incident occurred near Unquowa Road and Papermill Lane, where multiple witnesses reported a boy attempted to stab two other boys. Video footage provided by bystanders supports these claims. No one was injured. Fairfield Police have investigated the matter; further details are expected as the situation develops.
