Fire Displaces Three

Bridgeport firefighters quickly extinguished a third-floor bathroom fire at 146 George Street around 3:45 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Ellis said Bridgeport police officers were already evacuating residents when firefighters arrived and successfully got everyone out safely.The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and did not spread beyond the bathroom. No injuries were reported, but three adults were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

Car Flips Into Building

A car crashed into a building on Madison Ave by Ashton Street in Bridgeport. According to witnesses, the driver was attempting to race another vehicle, when she lost control, smashed through a stone wall, and vaulted up onto the side of a building. According to witnesses, the driver, with an approx. 8 year old child and two others all got out of the car. Firefighters quickly secured the car, preventing any further damage to the building or surrounding area, where the car was then lowered via crane. According to unconfirmed radio reports at least 2 patients were treated for their injuries.

Bridgeport News: Firefighters Battle Sheridan Street Fire

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Sheridan Street in Bridgeport around 9:00pm on July 4th for a building fire. Deputy Chief Cody said companies arrived to find heavy fire in the rear of the building. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, knocked down the main body of the fire, and remained on scene for extensive overhaul, chasing hot spots throughout the building to make sure the fire was completely out. Cody said the crews had already been busy and were working in warm conditions, but were being rehabbed on scene. The Downtown Bridgeport Farmers Market is returning for the 2026 season, bringing fresh produce, local food vendors, live music, artisan crafts, and community resources to McLevy Green every Thursday beginning July 9. Bridgeport Police Investigating Stabbing After Man Found Bleeding Inside Car on Pulaski Street

Bridgeport Police detectives are investigating the stabbing of a 31-year-old Bridgeport man who was found bleeding inside a vehicle on Pulaski Street late Tuesday afternoon. Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Bridgeport patrol officers were flagged down by a passerby who reported that a man was bleeding inside a car parked on Pulaski Street. Officers located the victim, who had suffered multiple stab wounds. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment. Police said he is listed in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive. Bridgeport Man Charged With Murder After Laurel Avenue Stabbing

Bridgeport Police arrested a 44-year-old man early Monday morning after he fatally stabbed one family member and injured two other relatives during an incident at a residence on Laurel Avenue. Jahmar Whittingham was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived at the 960 block of Laurel Avenue at approximately 5:00 a.m. They encountered Whittingham in front of the house holding a large kitchen knife. He dropped the knife when ordered but then told officers they would have to shoot him. Whittingham refused to comply with further commands. Officers tased him, but he pulled the prongs from his body. Missing Fisherman Located Following Penfield Reef Incident

On June 20, 2026, during the morning hours, the body of 34-year-old Kwahiwi Edwards of Queens, New York, was located on a beach near Shoreline Drive in Stratford. Mr. Edwards had been reported missing on June 13, 2026, after he and another fisherman became stranded on the reef at Penfield Beach as the incoming tide rapidly surrounded them. A witness entered the water in an attempt to assist the fishermen but was also swept into deeper water. Responding Fairfield Police officers successfully rescued the witness and the second fisherman; however, Mr. Edwards could not be located. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. The day has since become a time to reflect on the end of slavery in the United States while also celebrating Black history, achievement, family, and community pride. In Bridgeport, the holiday brought people together to honor that history while enjoying music, food, vendors, fellowship, and family-friendly activities. Dice Convenience Smoke Shop Employee Arrested After Cannabis Seizure; Products Test Positive for Fentanyl

On Friday, May 29, 2026, the Bridgeport Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Division, working alongside the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Drug Control Division, the Bridgeport Fire Inspectors Office, and the Bridgeport Health and Building Departments, executed a search and seizure warrant at Dice Convenience Smoke Shop, located at 4016 Main Street. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 23.24 pounds of cannabis and THC-related products as part of an ongoing effort to address the illegal sale of cannabis products from smoke shops in Bridgeport. Officers also recovered $654 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal sales.
