ARREST MADE IN DEADLY DAYTIME SHOOTING ON SPRING STREET

As a result of the criminal investigation led by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Detective Tom Harper was able to secure an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Roshay Williams charging him for the September 11, 2024, murder of 37-year-old Akeem Shoucair-Grant. On Sept. 11, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, Akeem was shot multiple times in the 100 block of Spring Street. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. Roshay Williams, of Bridgeport, CT, turned himself into Bridgeport Police Headquarters this morning and was served with the warrant charging him with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Bridgeport, CT – Due to the alarming incident that recently involved multiple schools throughout the Bridgeport Public School District, the City of Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Bridgeport Board of Education would like to reassure all parents, students, staff members, and all other residents of the community that safety remains the top priority. This issue has significantly impacted the Bridgeport community as a whole and is not to be taken lightly. Four-Vehicle Crash in Bridgeport Leaves One Driver in Critical Condition

On September 18, 2024, at approximately 10:09AM, the Emergency Operations Center received a call for a collision involving four vehicles. The collision occurred near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street. The caller reported, an operator of a black Toyota Camry struck several cars, and possibly had a seizure. Bridgeport Fire Engine 15, American Medical Response (AMR), Bridgeport Police Officers, and the Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the location. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined a 43-year-old, Bridgeport resident was operating a 2009 black Toyota Camry and traveling north on East Main Street. Stratford News: Gun Found At School UPDATE

A firearm was discovered on the grounds of Nichols Elementary School during the evening of September 18, 2024. It was found covered in dirt and debris, both inside and out, and had rusted significantly from prolonged exposure to the elements. The firearm matches the description of one reported missing after an incident that occurred nearby in 2017. The Detective Bureau is currently investigating whether there is a connection between this firearm and the 2017 incident. Authorities have confirmed that the firearm posed no immediate threat to the public, as it appears to be inoperable due to its current condition.

Mayor Hoydick Urges Veterans to Apply for New 100% Disability Property Tax Exemption

STRATFORD – Mayor Laura R. Hoydick, in an effort with Assistant Tax Assessor Katherine Stauffer, CCMC, is encouraging all veterans to learn more about the new property tax exemption for veterans with a 100% permanent and temporary disability rating that goes into effect October 1, 2024, and will be reflected in July 1, 2025 tax bill. Mayor Hoydick stated, “Public Act 24-46 establishes a new municipal property tax exemption for veterans who have a 100% service-connected permanent and total (P&T) disability rating. Stratford residents who served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force, or Space Force and have a 100% P&T Rating -- as determined by the US Department of Veterans Affairs -- are eligible for this exemption.…

Arrest Made in Ansonia School Threat

This morning, 9/19/2024, at about 6:40 A.M., the Ansonia Police Department received a complaint about a threat to the Ansonia Public Schools posted on social media. The Ansonia Board of Education was notified and a decision was made to cancel school. Our Patrol Division and Detective Bureau were able to interview several potential witnesses. During the interview process a 13 year-old female juvenile confessed to making the post and she was arrested. The juvenile was referred to Juvenile Court for Threatening First Degree and Breach of Peace Second Degree. Chief Williams commends the actions of the Ansonia Police Department’s Patrol Division and Detective Bureau for their quick response and coordinated effort to secure the schools and investigate the threat. Several people reached out to us to ask if a gun was found at Nichols School in Stratford. I reached out to Police Chief McNeil who confirmed that an inoperable gun was found outside in the back of the school that appears to have been buried there a long time and was inoperable.
