#Westport CT--On March 5, 2019 at 7:00 pm, Westport Animal Control will be hosting an Animal Control Awareness Night in the Police Department’s second-floor classroom. The purpose of this event is to educate the public about the functions of Westport’s Animal Control Division and discuss multiple topics, including information regarding animal control laws and town ordinances, disaster preparedness for pets, living with coyotes, protection from rabies and what to do if you find injured wildlife. Westport News: Spectacle Framed…

#Westport CT--On 07/03/2018, officers were dispatched to a store on a report of a larceny. Employees reported a male had stolen 12 pairs of eyeglass frames, valued at over $6,000. Images of the suspect were obtained from store surveillance. On 07/11/2018, the images were posted on the Westport Police Department social media pages asking the public to assist in identifying the suspect. Investigators later received a phone call identifying the suspect as Jorge Velez of Bridgeport, CT. Velez’s license photo was compared to the suspect pictured in store surveillance and was determined to be the same person. An arrest warrant application was submitted and later approved. Westport Yard Waste Hours

#Westport, CT - Effective immediately, the Westport Yard Waste site, located at 180 Bayberry Lane, will operate with reduced hours as follows: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This schedule will be in effect until March 4, 2019, when regular hours will resume. Today’s 2nd Vehicle Fire

4:08pm--#Westport CT--The Westport Fire Department responded to report of a motor vehicle accident with a car on fire on Roseville Road. Arriving units found a 2 car motor vehicle accident with one car on fire. All occupants were out of the vehicles. The fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters and Westport EMS treated one patient who was injured. Westport EMS transported one patient to an area hospital. The Westport Police Department responded and provided traffic control. The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 5:05 pm. Westport News: Trash And Recycling Changes

Westport, CT - Director of Public Works Peter Ratkiewich announced today that the Westport Transfer Station, located at 300 Sherwood Island Connector, will NOT be accepting residential recycling the week of February 4 – 9.  Additionally, for the safety of all Town residents, the Transfer Station will close at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 5. Due to the complex nature of the Compactor #2 replacement project, residents are requested to hold back their recycling for the one week period while the compactor is being replaced. This will allow for the safe and efficient replacement of the compactor.  The Public Works Department will be notifying all licensed refuse and recycling haulers of this temporary change in normal operating procedures. Westport News: Unwanted Visitor

#Westport CT--On 12/21/2018 at approximately 11:30 pm, officers were dispatched to a Westport residence on a report of an unwanted party. The suspect, identified as Lucas Vanderkamp, left the residence prior to police arrival. Officers learned Vanderkamp had entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked side door, without permission or announcing himself, before sitting in the living room. Vanderkamp left the home when asked to do so. The victim reported they had not spoken to Vanderkamp in three years but had previously made it clear to him he was not welcome on the property.
